The enormous eyes are themselves dikenga-like signs- four pointed diamond-like courses within circles filled with the kaolin of the other world. And the mask's name apparently relates to the Ki-Kongo kalung, "ocean, completion, God." The "kalunga line" is the boundary of the spirit world. (Thompson)
